RE: Twelve-Year-Old Female Racer Seeks Corporate Sponsorships
Sloan Henderson of Franklin, Ohio wants to be one of the first 12-year-old female racers to obtain corporate sponsorships to underwrite her racing career. Sloan, who races quarter midget racecars through USAC Midget Racing and bandolero racecars through 600 Racing Legends, already views racing as her career. She has developed a career path that takes her from quarter midget and bandolero racing through midget racing, Craftsman truck racing and the Busch Series to the NASCAR Nextel Series by age 24.
Not many other 12-year-old female racers have, as yet, been successful in obtaining a corporate audience. But, that doesn't intimidate Sloan Henderson. She is used to being first. In her premiere racing season, Henderson set several records. In her fourth race ever, she won the Senior Novice Eastern Grand Nationals in July 2004. That same year, Henderson went on to set three track records within the Mid-Ohio Series, at Miami Valley and Mac-O-Chee racetracks and posted wins at every QMA racetrack on which she raced. Henderson was also the first female to set the pole at her first Senior Honda race that season.
“Racing is not just a hobby to me,” states Henderson, “It's my passion, and soon it will be my career. Most of my friends don't know what they want to be when they grow up, but I do. I want to be the first female ever to win the NASCAR Nextel Cup. I know a lot of young people dream of winning the Nextel Cup, but I fully intend on making my dream come true. I love the feeling I get when I am racing ¾ and especially when I win. This year, I am looking forward to competing in more than 270 races on the quarter midget and bandolero circuits. When I am in the car on the racetrack, nothing else matters. I love to race. I love to go fast. And I love to win!”
As you might imagine, this 12-year-old phenomenon is creating quite a buzz in the racing arena. Richard (Chip) Williams, President of the Williams Company of America, Inc. and former NASCAR spokesperson, comments, “Sloan has shown an ability to focus on goals and to work hard to meet them. Even at age 12, I feel she has the capability to become everything she wants to be. The thing I like about her most is her goal ¾ not to be the best female race in motorsports, but to be the best racer ¾ period. If she continues to work as hard as she has, I have no doubt she could be just that.”
Robert Talty, marketing consultant and president of Technology Resource Group, believes Henderson's age and gender will likely appeal to companies across the board. “Sloan Henderson appears to be marketable to a broad range of buyers in today's market, not just to a specific gender or to fans of a particular sport, but to a broad spectrum of consumers from ages 6-22. I believe Henderson can also polarize the Generation Xers and the baby boomers. Henderson is competitive, articulate, bright and beautiful, and all of that translates into marketability to a wide target range.”
Sloan Henderson MotorSports has developed levels of corporate sponsorships that provide the opportunity for multiple marketing exposures to companies, both on a regional and national level. These corporate sponsorship levels include potential TV viewership of over 60,000,000 on Speed Channel Summer SHOOT OUT at Lowe's Motor Speedway, advertising on a mobile billboard with more than 840,000 impressions per month, exposure in press releases and media interviews, company logos on the racecar and apparel, and recognition on Sloan Henderson MotorSports' website.
“We are looking for nine corporate sponsors in all: three motorsports corporate sponsors; three corporations that do extensive media advertising; and three consumer product corporations that want to test the motorsports industry,” commented Stephen Henderson, Sloan's father and career manager. “We offer a package to those companies currently involved in motorsports racing and a package for those companies that want to get involved in motorsports racing at a low-cost, low-risk level. Our goal is to stable our own team and take our corporate sponsors all the way to NASCAR.”
“Henderson's age and gender give companies a tremendous opportunity to join forces and utilize a top marketing opportunity,” continued Williams. “The publicity surrounding a marketing alliance with local, regional and national companies will be mutually beneficial and make Henderson a very valuable player within area and regional motorsports.”
Henderson is just looking for the opportunity to talk to leaders in the corporate world. “I want the chance to explain to companies why they should want to sponsor me in my racing career. I know it would be a good opportunity for their companies. They get to advertise their products and services, and they also get to help a young racer who is on her way to becoming a future NASCAR racing star!”

“As Sloan's principal, I can say that, in my 11 years in education, rarely have I been privileged to have a student capable of balancing successfully the demands of academics and outside interests. There is no question that academics and character go hand in hand to produce students that are prepared and eager for the challenges of what lies ahead for them. Along with Sloan's desire to learn come the strong traits of dedication, honesty, respect, responsibility, self worth and integrity. I respectfully suggest that those traits of character and academics describe Sloan Henderson. On a personal note, Sloan is already a role model for my daughters.”

Sloan Henderson's Quotes
“Racing is not just a hobby to me; it's my passion, and soon it will be my career. I am only 12 years old, but I KNOW what I want to do when I grow up – racecars in the NEXTEL NASCAR Series. A lot of young people have that goal, but I fully intend on making my dream come true.
“This year, I am racing quarter midget cars, and next year will begin practicing for midget car racing. I have a career path, which includes midget cars, trucks, Busch series and then NASCAR.
“I started racing in 2004 – racing quarter midgets. I immediately loved the feeling I got when I raced and especially when I won! In my first year of racing, I was the first female ever to win the Senior Novice Eastern Grand Nationals in my fourth race. I set three track records that year, set the pole in her first senior Honda Race and enjoyed many other local and regional wins. This year, I am looking forward to competing in more than 280 races in the Senior Honda, Light 160 and ½ midget categories.
“I have high goals, and I expect to achieve them. I believe that, if you put your mind to something, you can do it. And I have put my mind to racing. I can't even describe the feeling I get when I am in the car on the track ¾ nothing else in this world matters then. I love to race. I love to go fast. And I love to WIN !”
